The impossible is possible with gratitude.

Our Mission:

Malama `Aina

“Malama 'Aina” is a Hawaiian phrase that means caring for and honoring the land. This traditional Hawaiian value goes far beyond sustainability, has much to teach us about our relationship to the land and how to be a good custodian of it.

Our Mission

Heal Connect Grow… Connect humans to nature as a way to heal, connect and grow for a more sustainable future.

The Ranch

Holding Space, connecting with the `aina

Malulani Ranch means “under peaceful heavenly skies” in Hawaiian. From the moment you drive down the long driveway, you start to disconnecting from the day-to-day life of Hilo Town just 5 miles below, and start to connect with the `aina and all that surrounds you.

Nestled on the side of Mauna Loa, Malulani Ranch offers visitors the opportunity to come together and work towards a positive goal for all—growing healthy food! We do this by providing a safe, welcoming environment where we combine everyday gardening with education, fellowship, and fun.

Connecting the future with the past, today.

Hawaii Science & Technology Museum serves the Hawaii Island community through our various outreach programs such as Science Camps, math tutoring, after school programs, student research support, robotics competitions, and special events. We at HSTM, believe that every child deserves to receive a solid STEM education and that the future prosperity of our community and nation depends upon cultivating our next generation of innovators.

Be Bold.

Surfing, snorkeling, sailing, and hiking up volcanoes—the most epic outdoor activities you can do in Hawaii! We will explore from the top of the Big Island’s parched volcanoes down to its verdant rainforests. We’ll swim with manta rays, exotic fish, and sea turtles, and we’ll learn how to help protect Hawaii’s fragile reef ecosystems. Hawaiian families will teach us local customs, and we’ll give back to their communities with an afternoon of service projects. We’ll hike to thundering waterfalls and get up close and personal with wild dolphins!

Better Together

We have a saying around here… “the impossible is possible with gratitude”

John and Emily Emmons met and partnered with landowner Penny Young of Tallahassee, FL in 2017 after being introduced by the University Agriculture Dean. Together, they have been able to create a space for learning and growing. Connecting and healing. Adventure and relaxation. A safe place to just be.

Thereʻs been a lot of love, sweat and tears along the way, but weʻre proud of the ALOHA that has poured into build this special place. It is with grace, gratitude and an open heart that we share this special place called Malulani Ranch.

The natural landscape of Malulani provides a place to remember who we are as Hawaiʻi, what we value, and the responsibility we have been given by our ʻāina ancestors to steward for generations to come.

A Healing Opportunity

“A few weeks ago, I visited Malulani Ranch along with my two youngest children while their father was working at sea. For them, it was a fun and beautiful way to be outdoors, helping walk the donkeys and exploring the property. For me, it was a healing opportunity - I was able to experience a singing bowl session with Emily and release many of the stresses and traumas that come with having a partner that is unavailable during a very difficult time and serving in his particular capacity.” - Muskopf

Feburary 2022

The landscape and people of Malulani conveys the message, “Come just as you are. You are beautiful and valuable and loved as you were created.”
